From Doug Perry, Lead Servant
I’m from Missouri. Born and bred. Down deep. Like it and don’t want to change. So you gotta Show Me.
SHOW ME where the Bible says the Church can’t survive without a building.
SHOW ME where the Bible says to go build buildings!
SHOW ME where the Bible says that going to church on Sunday is all that it takes to make you a “Christian.”
SHOW ME where the Bible says that our financial obligation to God is just 10%.
SHOW ME where the Bible says Christians should be indistinguishable from the rest of culture.
SHOW ME where the Bible says we should hire consultants and fundraiser and demographers to build our churches.
SHOW ME where the Bible says the “Senior Pastor” is the CEO of a corporation and the boss of everybody.
SHOW ME where the Bible says the church should spend 95% of the money on itself.
SHOW ME where the Bible says that it’s OK to divide off from other Jesus loving people over secondary issues.
SHOW ME where the Bible says denominations are a good thing.
Because I can show YOU some stuff.
I can SHOW YOU that the early Church met daily and from house to house. (Acts 2:46)
I can SHOW YOU that when they started splitting up into teams, Paul said they were carnal and not spiritual. (1 Corin. 3)
I can SHOW YOU that Jesus said the “world” would know He was from God when the Christians were ONE. (John 17:21-23)
I can SHOW YOU that we have over 50,000 denominations now and a new one every 48 hours.
I can SHOW YOU that the only Biblical references to “church” were all the Christians in one city (Rev. 2-3, etc.)
I can SHOW YOU that the city church was autonomous, independent and led by local elders who were servants, not autocrats.
I can SHOW YOU that you can’t restore The Bride until we care for one another, feed the hungry, take in the homeless, and stop the malicious talk and pointing finger and stop turning away from our own Brothers and Sisters. (Isaiah 58:6-12)
I can SHOW YOU that the Christians were supposed to shock their neighbors with how much they loved one another. (Acts 4:32-37, 5:13)
I can SHOW YOU that the system that we have built is terminally ill and not working.
I can SHOW YOU that we need to try something else – community and unity and love for one another outside the walls that have been built over 2000 years.
You might think I’m exaggerating how bad things are and how much we need to hurry, but I can assure you that I’m going easy on you. It’s critical that we make every possible effort to be One and show Jesus that we’re serious about helping
CitySaver is all an effort to try something different. To give the tools to Christians that want to connect and serve outside the boxes, or even in the boxes but still willing. And it’s a gift to the communities for what we should have been doing all along and instead focused on ourselves.
